Even if your basement waterproofing system is top-notch, you will always run the risk of it failing in an unusually strong rainstorm or flood . . . and no one wants to bail water out of their basement with a bucket! If you live in an area that is notorious for flooding, you might also want to consider installation of a battery backup or water-driven sump pump.
Professional installers can place your submersible sump pump in a specially-designed crock or basin (basically a covered hole) in your basement to protect it from the elements. In the case of a particularly bad flood, these pumps can switch on even if your home loses electricity power, since they usually run on batteries.
Sump pump backups usually work for providing additional drainage, but make sure that you consider the horsepower of your pump and whether or not you might want to install more than one. You can find many reviews of particular sump pump brands online, but be sure to ask your contractor about the features and price differences.
